Cupola
- Hyde Park
Hyde Park cupolas, like
most of their sister cupolas, are related
to dome-like structures that began appearing
in Islamic countries during the 8th century.
These cupolas were used atop mosques and
similar structures to provide ventilation
to the building below. Eventually, the
use of cupolas spread throughout Europe
and, following the Revolutionary War, became
popular within the United States. Hyde
Park cupolas were first associated with
domes on top of homes and other structures
in the same-named area of New York State.
However, because of their aesthetic beauty,
Hyde Park cupolas are now found in all
states, including Alaska and Hawaii.

Today, cupolas or domes appear as decorative
ornaments on all types of buildings such as homes, garages,
barns, stables, churches
